But you might come across situation like software malfunction for which you will have to erase the data and format your phone. Such problem arise when you are trying to root or flash your device. Here's the simple trick to format your HTC One M7. Factory reset wipes out your entire data so make sure you back up all the files as they will be erased.
1. When your One is working and you can access the settings, just slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap the button.
2. Click 'backup and reset'.
3. Click 'Reset Phone'.
4. If you want to erase all the data, tap 'Erase all data'.
5. Tap Reset phone, and then tap OK.

This has sorted out my battery drain issues. Now at 81% after 5 hours - that's more like it! I used HTC backup to restore everything from googledrive (after its done a backup!). However you'll lose photos (use Flickr to save these) and your whatsapp thread (can be backed up to googledrive first) plus any settings from apps such as Maildroid and Beyondpod so export these and save them to dropbox for restoring later. Wish I'd done this earlier!
